Located around 25 meters south of Hin Pee Wee and sitting at a maximum depth of 30 meters the HTMS Sattakut is a long awaited addition to the dive sites around Koh Tao.
As you descend down the buoy line to a depth of around 16 meters you are confronted by an impressive 76mm/50 mk 22 dp gun mounted on the bows raised gun platform. Following the main deck for 30 meters you reach the conning tower and pilot house which is easily accessible for qualified divers. Moving further on towards the stern you will find a 40mm/60 Bofors Mk III cannon still with both operator seats intact for a great photo opportunity. There are areas of the ship where you can pass under staircases and signs located for wreck specialty divers only.
Even though this is a new wreck it is already showing signs of life with a Jenkins Whip Ray being spotted near the bow, shoals of fusiliers around the main deck and some juvenile barracuda near the wheelhouse doors. Being so close to Hin Pee Wee it will take very little time for coral to establish itself turning this quite incredible site into a beautiful artificial reef.
For Wreck specialty divers there is ample opportunity to penetrate this site, with multiple entrances and exits. lines are already in place guiding you through the living quarters and mess area, down into the hold and back up through the front deck.
This truly is a great addition to our array of dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand and will be sure to give years of memorable diving.
