PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty

"NITROX"

The PADI Enriched Air Diver or Nitrox program is PADI’s most popular specialty scuba diving course, and it’s easy to see why.

The most frustrating part of scuba diving is when you are at a stunning dive site, cruising around at around 25 meters looking at the different marine life, maybe spending some time with the magnificent Bull Sharks found at Chumphon Pinnacle thinking to yourself “diving doesn’t get much better than this” knowing you have limited time at this depth you look at your dive computer and your no-decompression limit is reading 5 minutes. Making your way to a shallower depth to extend your dive time always takes the edge of a spectacular dive wishing you could have spent a little more time a bit deeper.

The PADI Enriched Air Diver or Nitrox Specialty course helps eliminate this scenario and has huge benefits when completing 2 or more deep dives in a day allowing longer bottom times due to extended no-decompression limits or shorter surface intervals when time is limited.

Questions we are generally asked:

How old do I have to be?

To participate in the PADI Enriched Air Diver course, you must be 15years or older and have a PADI Open Water Diver certification (or have a qualifying certification from another organization).

What equipment do I need?

Scuba equipment required for the PADI Enriched Air Diver program is supplied. This includes Mask, Fins & Snorkel, a B.C.D. (buoyancy control devise), Weight system, Tanks, wetsuit and regulator set. Other equipment you may want to use includes a dive computer, blank slate or underwater camera. Please contact us for details on purchasing diving equipment.

What learning materials do I need?

The Enriched Air Diver crew pack includes all required materials to complete PADI’s Enriched Air Diver specialty. The Enriched Air Diver Manual covers the procedures for diving with Enriched Air (up to 40%) and the Enriched Air Diving video on DVD demonstrates step-by-step how to plan a dive using multiple dive tables. The eRDPML used in the PADI Open Water Diver course is required but not included with this crew pack.

What will I learn?

You will learn a variety of techniques by one of our experienced PADI professional instructors including techniques for getting more dive time by using Enriched Air Nitrox. Enriched air scuba diving equipment considerations and Enriched air considerations, including managing oxygen exposure, analysing your own scuba tank to tell the percentage of oxygen and how to set your dive computer for the appropriate blend.

How long is the PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty?

This can be completed as a non diving specialty which takes approximately 6 hours although we recommend that you complete the theory which can take as little as 2 hours in our teaching facility and then 2 training dives using “Nitrox”.

What can I do next?

Diving with Enriched Air Nitrox benefits all types of diving, but it goes especially well with these specialties: • PADI Wreck Diver course – Popular wrecks tend to be deeper, so Enriched Air Nitrox maximizes your exploration time. • PADI Deep Diver course – The deeper you dive, the shorter your no stop time – but Enriched Air Nitrox increases it, giving your more time at depth • PADI Digital Underwater Photographer – Photographers usually like to make several dives so they can get lots of pictures. Enriched Air Nitrox reduces the amount of residual nitrogen you accumulate, allowing repetitive dives to be longer. • PADI Master Scuba Diver The PADI Enriched Air Diver course counts toward your Master Scuba Diver rating -- the highest non professional rating in recreational diving.
