"The Vikings"

A great family and a great time

Meeting Kenneth Henriks in the lobby of Rockys Resort in Lamai we discussed the diving he and his 3 sons had booked via the internet. Kenneth wanted to take his diving credentials further with the Enriched Air Nitrox, Navigation, and Peak Performance Buoyancy PADI Specialty courses, His sons Jannik and Oliver wanted to complete their PADI Advanced Open Water and Open Water diver course respectively, and his third son Daniel, already a PADI Rescue Diver wanted to enjoy the different dive sites and marine life the Gulf of Thailand have to offer.

After we had discussed the relevant courses and completed some paperwork Kenneth introduced me and Lawson to his “boys”. After making arrangements to hire some smaller equipment for “his boy’s” Kenneth laughed as he introduced me to his three sons, the youngest being Oliver who stands around 6’2”…. That’s when I turn round to Kenneth and stuttered “these are not boy’s, they’re Vikings” worried that I may need to now borrow some bigger equipment Kenneth looked at me and replied “these are my boys”

Our PADI Professional Instructors Stuart, a very well respected Instructor from the UK, helped Oliver through his PADI Open Water Diver and Thailand’s very Own Mann Panithi Sirikong one of Koh Samui’s very first Thai Instructors helped Jannik achieve his PADI Advanced Open water certification. My good friend and Dive Master, Lawson Ladd accompanied Daniel on his dives whilst I took Kenneth through his PADI Specialty Dives. Adding to the Underwater Naturalist and Multi-Level and already a PADI Rescue Diver, Kenneth was now going for his Master Scuba Diver certification, the highest non-professional certification you can achieve through the PADI educational system.

For the 3 day’s we had, everything went as smooth as I had hoped it would, with the banter starting from the very first day. Although there was a lot of work to be done by this very friendly Danish family they all took it in their stride and each in turn achieved their diving goals. Each day started with some leg pulling about my driving, and laughs about what went on the night before. The laughs continued throughout the day with everyone making fun of everyone else when the opportunity arose. When it was time to dive however the concentration was evident as Kenneth, Oliver, and Jannik completed their training dives.

On a personal note this has to be close to 3 of the best days of teaching I have ever done, and after talking with Stuart, Mann and Lawson they agreed and will all look forward to meeting the Henriks family again on Koh Samui.

Thank you and congratulations to you all. It was a real pleasure…
